Jean Honeychurch has really bad luck. That's where her nickname comes in, Jinx. She can't go anywhere without tripping or falling. On top of that her cousins convinced that she is a witch (Troy), but Jean is the one with the real powers. When she had a crush on a boy she made a doll that would make him love her, but she realizes that him loving her is way too much. He wants her to come to all of his games no matter what; he thinks she has to spend all of her time with him so she tries to break the spell. It doesn't work he starts stalking her so then she moves.
